Newsletter Strategy & Audience Retention

The Challenge
Newsletters are often treated as administrative updates—useful, but easy for audiences to ignore. Across both literary programming and public service advocacy work, the challenge was to create recurring email communications that could carry large amounts of institutional information without losing readability, momentum, or audience attention.

The Strategy
Rather than sending one-note announcements, the newsletters were approached as curated editorial touchpoints. The goal was to balance timeliness with readability: highlighting events, essays, policy features, campaign updates, and institutional news in formats that felt intentional rather than overloaded. Consistency in tone, visual hierarchy, and audience pacing became central to keeping subscribers engaged over time.

Execution
Klara wrote and edited recurring newsletters, event reminder emails, and campaign subscriber communications across both organizations—managing copy flow, section organization, promotional timing, and visual integration. This included bi-monthly literary newsletters to public audiences, targeted advocacy email copy, and supplemental campaign sends tied to ongoing institutional initiatives.

Results
Managed newsletter communication reaching more than 1,500 subscribers, supported recurring audience retention across two distinct institutional readerships, and contributed to a 200% increase in engagement across Cheuse Center’s digital channels.
